Palakkad: “Rayiranellur Malakayattam” devotees first offer worship at the temple of Naduvattom Devi. Then chanting prayers with religious fervor they trudge up 1½ kms and 400 steps uphill to pay their obeisance at the Durga temple where she is supposed to have blessed ‘Narayanath Branthan,’ on the first day of the Malayalam month of ‘Thulam. Then they circumambulate the huge statue of ‘Narayanath Branthan,’ in the belief that the goddess would bless them too. As per legend, from morning on the ‘Bhranthan’ would roll up a boulder, reaching the top by noon. Then letting go he would clap and roar with laughter watching it rolling down, an allegory on the absurdity of life.
